Aspen Gate
Aspen Gate IS A SITE-SPECIFIC SCULPTURE CREATED BY ADAM DETRE AS PART OF HIS ELEMENTS SERIES
While its location is protected by a non-disclosure agreement, Adam is happy and proud to have completed this commission. The initial brief for the project was to embellish the entrance to a private property while complimenting the direct surroundings.
The site is surrounded by temperate coniferous forests, featuring mixed conifer trees, but in Adam’s eye, most notably Aspens. He was immediately drawn to the mix of ridges and pock marks in the young Aspens and decided to make this a feature of the project.
Having presented a series of itterations for how the final form of the project would look, the client elected to use a motif that focused on the ridges of the young Aspens.
Adam continues to exercise his preference to create sculptures that encourage light to create patterns as the sun moves through the sky. At its most basic level, Adam gains the most pleasure from watching how the lights plays with the carved surface of sculptures which, in this case seek to emulate the way the light plays on the surface of the surrounding aspen trees .
As a continuation of the ELEMENTS Series, He loves how the the light interacts with the rhythmic, repetitive, carved marks. The dance between the sun and the sculptures makes each glance a unique impression throughout the day, the seasons and a lifetime.
